Pimples which are also known as ACNE is a bump that shows up on the body as a result of a mixture of estrogen and sebum from the body that got clogged in the pores. Although it appears on both adults and the youths, teenagers are the most common sufferers of it.

Can that really be the case? Well, let’s take a closer look at the evidence and see if there’s any truth behind the rumor.


In 2016, the British news outlet (The Guardian) ran an experiment by exploring the relationship between greasy foods and pimple or acne.


The reference to research from a few other sources including the British Association of dermatologists who stated that there is little evidence that any foods can cause acne even chocolate and fast food.


But research from the British Medical Journal showed that a diet high in dairy, particularly skim milk, can increase the severity of pimple or acne. So, therefore, just maybe chocolate is okay but apparently, some foods can cause pimples and zits.


Another study by the US NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE conducted in 2014, wanted to assess the effect of chocolate on acne on males between the ages of 18 and 35.


So, men were given capsules filled either with pure cocoa or gelatin. Each participant consumed 61-ounce capsules. So, the pure cocoa and gelatin in one sitting were mixed so that the participants consumed different levels of cocoa. Am sorry but if you like chocolate you won’t like the results.


The level of people’s pimples skyrocketed the days after chocolate consumption and the study showed that chocolate increases pimples or acne by 169 percent.


Oh yes, I know what you may be thinking right now but please don’t go trashing out all your candy just yet, Hold on a little!!!


Another lab expert, based on RATIONAL ADVICE ON ALTERNATIVE AND NATURAL ACNE TREATMENTS, picked up this study apart and claims that there are a couple of issues with the way it was conducted.


He started by saying, 14 participants is a very small study group, and small study groups are always bound to commit errors.

Next, it was added that there was no real CONTROL GROUP COMPARISON between cocoa and the placebo gelatin.


So now, does chocolate truly give you pimples?


We couldn’t find a definitive answer as there seem to be arguments for both sides of a debate. But at least we now know of course that gorging on chocolate is probably not the best dietary idea anyway.


So, what are the other causes of pimples and zits?


Well, we mentioned at the beginning how hormonal changes while growing up is one of the main causes and hormone imbalances are at their most extreme when our body goes through puberty.



Why Do Pimple Break Out in Spot.

Let’s take a look at what happens when pimples breakout and why pimples break out in spots. Teenage girls may begin puberty as early as age 6 to 7, then typically go through it at age 11. While the boys begin as early as age 9 but typically go through it around age 12.


During puberty, according to TEENS HEALTH CALM THE BRAIN, the teenager releases a hormone known as a gonadotropin-releasing hormone or GnRH, this hormone travels to the pituitary gland and signals it to release two additional hormones that affect a girl or boy’s body differently.


The results in growth and development as well as the production of hair under the arms and pubic area. This increased production of hormones signals the body to produce more sebum.


Sebum is a form of oil that is developed in the pores. Excess production of it can also cause the oil to build up on the hair follicles resulting in pimples and zits.


Can Adult Get Pimple and Zits?

Well, the most common question asked out there is ”what about adults”? Can adults also get pimples and zits?


Honestly speaking it’s rarer but yes, some adults do. The most common example is with women who are going through menopause. At this stage in their lives, again the changes in hormone activity at this level can affect the way their skin protects and regenerates itself.


They will also experience the same effect during pregnancy. In a testimonial that was recently released, stress has also been linked to breakouts of acne.

And why wouldn’t you hate these pimples, after all, they are filled with pus and make your face look ugly. And a few of these pimples are quite painful as well as they do not come in a single form.


There are different types of pimples and they appear for a few various reasons and it’s a fact that everyone goes through this condition in their life and some of you might.


1. Blackheads:


Blackheads are the types that appear on the nose, the forehead and on the chin. They are formed by the dead skin cells bacteria and the oil of your face.

4. Pustules Papules:

5. Cyste:


Cysts are the type that appears bigger on your skin and are painful. They form when the blocked pores are more damaged which result in them getting bigger.

There are three types of foods you must get out of your diet if you want pimples to go for good. These foods are known to boost the growth of pimples on your body so you have to get rid of them or possibly replace them with something else which I am going to tell you.


1. Sugar:

Sugar is known to boost the growth of yeast and candida in your system which are all factors that contribute to pimples or acne. So, instead of using sugar, I recommend you use Stevia.


Stevia is a natural and low or almost no calories sweetener you can also use.

But if you want something that actually has sugar maybe in your cooking or your baking, then you can go for raw honey


You also have to be careful with your fruit consumption. This does not mean you should not consume fruits. But you need to know that it also contains sugar so you have to mind the kind of fruit you take. Fruit should be less sweet or the type that is not too sweet will do for you.


Maybe consuming berries for the main time will be a good idea. In addition, keeping away from sugar also helps to balance your blood sugar level because when your blood sugar level goes up, it causes bad bacteria to grow.


2. Grain:

Now, this is a very serious one. There is a need for you to reduce your grain consumption. You can get gluten-free grains is OK because gluten causes inflammation in your intestinal tracts and you don’t want that to happen because when you have inflammation in your guts, it shows up on your skin. When you have pimples or acne or eczema, you may think it’s just a problem of the skin.

  4. Very interesting. There were types of pimples I had never even heard about, for example, the nodules. I was very lucky as a teenager, I was spared of any pimples 😉 and also as an adult I didn’t get any, perhaps a few here and there, but not that much. I must say, I’m a chocoholic, so when you mentioned chocolate, I thought “oh no …” although I do not consume it in great quantities either. Is it perhaps the sugar in the chocolate that causes pimples? I use cane sugar, but I was wondering about using agave nectar as a replacement (I don’t like stevia very much).

Well, like you read in the content, chocolate is an enemy to pimple so, it is either you cut down on your chocolate intake or keep away from it for some time if possible while you work on getting rid of the pimple.
